13 young activists who have been voicing out on issues about the new town development plan in the northeastern New Territories, have been convicted yesterday of unlawful assembly, and were jailed for 8-13 months after prosecutors pushed for harsher punishments, while previous sentencing for similar cases was usually fines, community services or three weeks to three months’ jail.
They are in fact Hong Kong's first political prisoners, punished heavily for protesting peacefully against injustices caused by the Hong Kong government.
Joshua Wong, Nathan Law and Alex Chow's ruling for storming the civic square in 2014, a case which has been reopened by prosecutors for similar reasons, will be given tomorrow afternoon, at Supreme court.
